Dimitris Maramis: The Haunted
The Bridge of Arta – The Ghost of Charmaena
A semi-staged folk opera – Α Megaron-The Athens Concert Hall Production

“A ritual of sound and speech, an original traditional ‘musical’ born from the cradle of
Greece.”

Composer Dimitris Maramis presents the folk opera (trilogy) The Haunted in a semi-staged form, featuring the folk song “The Bridge of Arta” and “The Ghost of Charmaena” (poetry by Sotiris Trivizas). The work marries contemporary musical expression with Greek and Balkan tradition. Its musical language dresses stories of a supernatural dimension, where archetypal characters affect the plot and the emotional momentum captivates the listener, evoking primal memories.

Artistic Director of the Delphi Festival, Maramis has composed the oratorio Palingenesia, the operas Captain Michalis and Eleftherios Venizelos, as well as music for 44 theatrical performances. In 2017, he inaugurated the Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera with “Erotokritos”. His works have been presented in the USA, China, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Spain.
